This exhibition will feature Painter and Sculptor Deborah K. Simon and Painter Nancy Freeman Tabas.  The artists will connect the viewer to a contemporary interpretation of the Jewish holiday of Passover and the times of Egypt and the Pharaoh.  “Making the Connection” runs April 3rd -23rd.  Gallery hours:  Monday - Thursday 1-6 PM excluding religious holidays.

One of Deborah Simon’s paintings, “A New Day”, expresses the optimism passed down to Deb from her parents in the Judaic tradition that with a positive attitude and hard work, anything is possible. The sand and water represents crossing the Sinai Desert and Sea then and a popular place now for families to rest or “recline”.  In “Duet”, the lushness of the landscape is symbolic of entering the promised land of Canaan.  Simon’s paintings “Touring “ and “On the Move” are a reminder that now we are free to move about free of fear no matter who we are.  The colors and light in “Spring Shade” remind us of spring, rebirth and the Festival of Passover (Pesach).

Nancy Freeman Tabas paintings are alive with the colors of spring for the celebration of the festival of Passover.

Nancy’s work” The Bridge Across” is her interpretation of the 21st century crossing of the Red Sea.  ‘The Bridge’ not only connects the old traditions with today, but it also shows the modern day man made miracles. Another painting “Got to Get There” symbolizes   how hard it was to cross the Sinai how it humbled man with all the hardships that the Israelites encountered. “Frog Play” is a visual representation of the 10 plaques; while “South China Sea” is a visual representation of the Diaspora of the Jewish people caused by the Exodus from Egypt.  Green lushness of “Solitude” symbolizes the arrival in the Promised Land of Canaan.
